In a land with a past dripping with the blood of millions of Jewish marters, we are surrounded by the battlefields of these brave men, women and children who would go on to shape the very way we see this beautiful land.

Arbel is one such location.

This mountain top is an absolutely incredible view.  Standing on the top, you can see many of the most important sites of Galilee.  It was an impenetrable Jewish stronghold.  Well, almost.  They should have remembered Psalm 20:7 "Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God." We can't trust in anything of this world to save us.
There was no fortress here, but along the sheer drop of the cliffs are looming caves.  Inside these, the Jewish rebels made their stand.  In the end they would choose death, rather than to submit to a pagan master.

  1. Looks like a beautifully clear day for the climb up Mt Arbel. Glad you were able to take in the views and hopefully see Mt Hermon as well. Just finished reading a book about this land, was so fun to try and picture it and remember where we have traveled.
